I am writing a concise history of the 3 Indian Division (The Chindits) for my website (www.BritishMilitaryHistory.co.uk) and am currently writing the chapter on Morris Force and Dah Force. In the Indian Official History of the Burma Campaign, it mentions that men of the South Staffordshires served with Dah Force. I know that Dah Force comprised about seventy British, Burmese and Hong Kong officers and other ranks, but am asking of anyone has any further information about which British personnel served with Dah Force. Thank you in anticipation.
Apart from being led by Lieut. Col. Denis Clive Herring MC, there are very few mentions of the force in books such as 'March or Die' by Phil Chinnery or 'War in the Wilderness, by Tony Redding. 'Fish' Herring had led a similar expedition into the Kachin Hills the year before to raise local resistance against the occupying Japanese. I'm wondering if any of the other forum members with interests in the 1944 campaign have come across a War diary or breakdown of personnel for Dah Force on their travels at the National Archives.
I remembered a thread from a while back which discussed the Hong Kong irregulars who were attached to various Special Forces in the Burma theatre. One of the links takes you to a site published by Tony Banham. An email sent his way may well through up some more information. http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/26108-hong-kong-volunteers-1941-44/?hl=%2Bhong+%2Bkong+%2Bchindits
