I stand 100% behind Sapper - Paul and Ron - and all their comments - as Sapper says we had met on my last trip from Canada - and I agree that at his age - mine and Ron's - the impetus is no longer there so I will stand up to anyone who even questions Brian - in my view - he is an honest man and has gone through more hardships both in the field and in the many hospitals undergoing surgery - compared to Brian - my wounds were puny but still kept me in Hospitals for more than five months before heading back for some more.....

Do we have your service records on file that you would allow us to scrutinise - it might be very interesting to the rest of us....
    Cheers

I agree re the "try to find out why",however if you do not receive the answer quick sticks it is perhaps easier to take it to PM or perhaps a subtle tone.

from an outsiders view point perhaps the questioning could have been less pointed.

Jon it is not sustained fire from the Mods ( i am not a Mod) ,just re read the trail and perhaps edges could have been filed off.

the point is you are liaising with a person from a different generation.

No I don't have a service record for you to scrutinise. The level of your argument here seems to be if you haven't served then don't comment. If that's the case then there isn't much point carrying on.

For the record, i've never directed a film either but I know a good one when I see one. If you get my point.

If forum members bother to read the thread closely you will notice my efforts were to discover the source of Sapper's claim that he has the true story of Pegasus Bridge. This is based upon the notion that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. None was forthcoming except an unrelated rant against 'authors'

I allowed my frustration to show. It's wasn't bear-baiting or bullying nor meant as personally insulting.

    Jonathon Ball 39-
I do apologise for querying your service record - and be assured that anyone - anywhere has the opportunity to make any comment relative to the WW2 - and I have read the whole thread through and note that your temperature was somewhat raised at times - fine - your frustration was allowed to show - we can all do that - but what we do not do is harrass a disabled veteran - as Paul pointed out.

So my advice to you - and others is to cool it - before the plug is pulled
    Cheers

I really hope that everyone will now refrain from further comment on the more recent posts, and allow the thread to get back on topic - the author / book whose name / title appears on this thread.

Might I also stress that that it would only be fair to read his book before issuing a critique about Mr Ambrose and his literary abilities. I do enjoy reading reviews and then comparing them to my opinions. However, I believe my own copy of this particular book has languished at the back of my 'to read' shelf and has not yet been promoted to the forward ranks.

    JB39 and Chant,

Your tone is off center. Your manners are lacking. The Veterans who contribute to this excellent forum are not to be trifled with. THEY were there. THEY left their youth on the field of battle. THEY saw their friends die. Ask questions galore. Ask our Veterans what it was like. Ask them for their own personal take on certain situations. But, there is no need to take this to a match of to and fro for the sake of oneupmanship. Gentlemen, you are dealing with history from those that were there.

As this is my last post on the subject I'll be as brief as possible. I do not require a lecture on manners thank you and to say I lack them is to belittle the way my parents raised me. What you fail to realise is that the initial discussion was based around questions galore that were and continue to remain unanswered. The history I deal with is that drawn from all the available sources, ones which are sourced and which can be referenced. If your opinion is that veterans are not be 'trifled with' then fair enough but nor should free speech and sceptical enquiry.

As I have stated previously, I stand by what I said.

    Back aboard the bandwagon sir.

P.S To Mr. Canning - There is really no need for you apologise. I accept your right to the opinion you hold totally. I also hold veterans in the highest regard, whatever some people might think.
