    E-mail to CWGC dated 12 March 2014

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I have an interesting query in relation to the following casualty.

    Name: THREADGOLD, JOHN

    Rank: Gunner
    Service No: 4807797
    Date of Death: 08/03/1945
    Age: 33
    Regiment/Service: Royal Artillery
Unit: 146 Bty., 91 (5th Bn. The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders) Anti-Tank Regt.
    Grave Reference: 19. B. 7.
    Cemetery: JONKERBOS WAR CEMETERY
Additional Information: Son of Harry and Elizabeth Threadgold; husband of Minnie Eleanor Threadgold, of Leyton, Essex.

J Threadgold was called up to the Lincolnshire Regiment and served in the 8th Battalion Lincolns until 21-12-1942. They were then converted to 101 Anti-Tank Regt RA. 101 A/Tk Regt itself was disbanded soon after in August 1943 and Threadgold must have been posted to 91 A/Tk Regt.

The nominal roll of the Lincolns, has him returning to the Lincolns (copies attached) and he was posted to the 2nd Battalion on 19-1-1945. When I checked, I discovered that 91 Anti-Tank Regt was disbanded in January 1945, so his transfer to another unit fits the date. The nominal roll has him recorded as Died of Wounds on 8-3-1945.

Please can you investigate and advise.

    Many thanks

Thank you for your letter of 17 February 2014, and the documentary evidence contained within, regarding the details we hold on Captain Edward Dudley Sagar Powell of the Lincolnshire Regiment. Let me also take this opportunity to apologise for the delay in our response to your enquiry. This is due to the large volume of correspondence we are currently receiving.

Thank you for your vigilance in this matter and for providing the relevant information.

May I explain that all such private memorials are inspected by our Regional Supervisors on a periodic basis and, if they are found to no longer provide adequate commemoration, then steps are taken to remedy the situation. I will therefore pass your e mail on to our United Kingdom Area Office for their information.
