My Paramedic crew mate took a unpaid period of leave to work with the Red Crescent on one of their ambulances in Gaza until June this year. She recently told me that she's found the above cemetery and that it is being well looked after by a local man.

Due to me endlessly boring her to death with stories from WW2 during the quiet periods on our 'bus' she offering to photograph any of the headstones within the cemetery for anyone of here.

Just add any requests below and I'll pass them on.

    Cheers
    Andy

    Hi Andy,

Good to know that the cemetery is being well looked after in these difficult times in the region. Your colleague should also be commended for her good work with the Red Crescent.

Please can you ask if your colleague can do three Royal Arty photos.

Norman Hayes, Grave Reference Plot B. Row C.Grave 10
Thomas McDermott, Grave Reference Plot C.Row C.Grave 12
Ernest Frederick Pointer, Grave Reference Plot B.Row B.Grave 8

To help locate the graves, I've attached a cemetery plan on a pdf. The above are WW2 and the plots are the first ones inside the entrance.

    Please pass on my thanks.

    Cheers - Rob

    Hi Andy,

Please pass on my thanks to your friend and like Rob commend them on their work with the Red Crescent.

    I have a WW2 lad from 208sq and two lads from WW1.

My words to a friend last week was, I could not see me getting these lads from Gaza any time soon. Glad to be wrong.

    Cheers

    Andy,

Considering the conditions inside the Gaza Strip, the fact that someone is looking after the CWGC Cemetery is a small miracle in itself.

My Admiration and Great Respect for those who tend the graves of our Fallen in such trying circumstances.

    Regards
    Tom

    Tom

When she told me she had been and visited the cemetery I did a quick Google search to find that the chap who has looked after it for years (god knows how many) has recently retired and was given a MBE for recognition for his devoted work. His son has now picked up the reins and continues his father excellent work.

Another article said the Israeli's shelled the cemetery in recent years, by accident I think, and paid out a large amount of money (150,000 I think) for the cemetery to be restored back to its original condition.

    Cheers
    Andy

Last shout for requests - I believe she's hoping to go on Tuesday and is hoping to meet the grounds man/gardener.

    Andy,

Would there be any chances of photos of the final resting places for 3 London Irishmen? Only if convenient, of course ?
