They are Flemish, not Brits, it would be more reasonable if they did it at the Belgian war memorial

But far less effective and less likely to achieve such a high profile (plus the Belgian war memorial doesn't fall under CWGC jurisdiction).

To be honest, even if there were Brits amongst them, I wouldn't expect them to stay away just because it's the Menin Gate... after all, they've got far more right to protest there than some of the other political demos that have been held there in the past (i've even seen 'little protests' there at the 8pm ceremony on occasion that have gone pretty much unnoticed (such as the 4 Falkland vets I was once there with who purposely turned their backs to the Union Flag during the playing of the National Anthem and saluted the names on the wall behind them instead) .

They're not going to cause any damage to it , so good luck to them!

I have no problem with hem striking, just thought that under the gate was a bit much. They are Flemish, not Brits, it would be more reasonable if they did it at the Belgian war memorial

Would it have attracted as much publicity for their cause if they did? I think your answer's right there.

Good luck to them. They have rights to a decent working wage and conditions of employment as anyone else. I think the soldiers mentioned on the monument would have been proud to stand alongside them.

I'm sure they're not too, but everyone's perceptions of 'fairness' are different, aren't they?
