I want to have the age on my cousin’s headstone amended yet blowed if I can find a specific link to how you do that. I’m sure I saw a proper form online there previously for just this purpose.

They have a section advising how to report an error to them but then do not provide precisely that information. There is a generic “contact us” form, which I have just used to query how I report an error, but surely this cannot be the contact form I want for my intended purpose?

The late great Terry Pratchett in his novel "Going Postal" parodies letters such as this where the organisation uses lots of weasel words, appears to be apologising when it is not and makes lots of grand sounding but meaningless promises to reform and improve.

Reacher Gilt art thou living at this hour?

Note that the attached documents now seem to be available and also a date range is possible.

Mind you I thought the name suggestions interesting!

This was the scene in Imphal War Cemetery yesterday. Completely overgrown and not a gravestone to be seen.
Instead of messing with something that works perfectly well would the CWGC have been better to spend their time (and our money!) keeping tidy the final resting place of some of the fallen of the Burma Campaign especially at this 75th anniversary of VJ Day?
Several emails from the CWGC explained that due to covid19 restrictions in India they had closed their operations to protect their staff. All very well and good and understandable in these unprecedented times but they’ve now had five months to liaise with the Indian Government about working within safe guidelines to keep the Cemetery in a reasonable condition. To be fair to the CWGC they may well have contacted the authorities but there was no mention of this in the emails I’ve seen. The gardeners are keen to be back at work as they depend on this employment in this impoverished area.
There are no easy solutions to this problem I know, but it seems that someone’s priorities at the CWGC are wrong at this present time.

CWGC has reissued the job pack due to an autocorrect issue.
It was meant to read Service Devilry Manager.

All of those bemoaning the CWGC IT Department - wait until some senior manager/accountant decides to out source and/or off shore IT support under some misguided attempt to save money.. Then you really will have something to complain about.

Been there - yes indeed. However having spent 2 years seconded from industry into C6 - part of CCTA - and carried out numerous reviews and post mortems on public sector IT projects and later worked as a consultant on some major gov IT projects I would make the observation that the public sector are in general really not good at IT projects.

Might be a temporary thing and gone by the morning.

Couldn't find page for Grenadier I knew to be a casualty. What was more worrying, search by date showed only one UK casualty for the Regiment, when at least 3 are recorded in Tunisia.
Eventually searched for the cemetery, thinking I'd find him listed there but it was showing 0 casualties

Edit: Now showing 2 casualties, so may be re-populating

The CWGC will no longer add any Mention in Despatches to their database that were awarded but not shown. Up until December 2020 they always did if provided with the London Gazette reference but now they are refusing to do so. It basically means if you died and your gallantry was recognised by the award of a Mention in Despatches which was found then it was included, but if it was not found until after December 2020 then they just ignore it. It beggars belief especially as in those days with the exception of the VC gallantry awards could not be issued posthumously. You just got a Mention in Despatches. Their email address is enquiries@cwgc.org

update: after writing to various Government and Association bodies including the Defence Minister regarding this I have received reassurance from the CWGC that Mention in Despatches will still be added when evidence is provided. Amazing what kicking up a fuss can do.
