I know it's not WW2 but has anyone called on these two medieval battlefields whilst in France?

I visited Agincourt with my youngest daughter two years ago; the visitor centre is superb, with interactive displays. The battlefield itself has been well-signposted for visitors too.
The staff were very friendly, and extremely tolerant of my bad French!
Never did get to Crecy though..........

Went to Crecy, not much to see, a viewing tower where the windmill was. Where Edward III had his commandpost during the battle.
Apart from that it's just another feild in France. Wish I'd had my longbow.
    Didn't get to Agincourt though.

Just finished Bernard Cornwell's book Azincourt, anyone read it?
Good ripping yarn, some of it a bit predictable, great descriptions of violent medieval combat.

Thanks for those Levien, that's the tower where the old mill stood isn't it?
Where I took the photo in post #3.

Yep, correct! There wasn't much more, besides a parking place and a broken public toilet.
Why should the French bother, they lost, didn't they. ;)

Went to Agincourt a couple of years ago on the way back from a two day Somme visit (which was truely excellent). As Gordon says, the visitor centre is very good, but not much else there. The folks in the local eatery were very friendly, as were everyone we met on the trip. To be honest, it was a cold and foggy February and we were all still wet from two days on the battlefield.
If you are ever in the area I have to recomend "Couvent des Minimes". The rooms are about expensive if you go direct but we got them for £65 per person per night through the internet including breakfast and parking (which is verrry limited in Lille)

Facinating battles to study are Crecy and Agincourt.

Agincourt battle is currently undergoing a trial of history at the moment I believe. With doubt being cast on number of French casualties. And the possibility of English pre planning rather than the up and at em we Brits love to recount of the battle. Dont know what physical evidence is being presented though..Unlike Bosworth recently where digging seems to have found physical evidence of the real battle site and a larger than thought possible for the time...bullet type ordinance.

Not heard a lot,but i did hear something about Agincourt historians having a disagreement on french casualty figures. We'll probably never know.

The Battle of Bosworth has had a lot of attention these last few years, and needed it after some historians have claimed for years that the superbly set out signs, paths, etc are in the wrong place.

The Church at Sutton Cheney where King Richard 3rd is supposed to have prayed on the eve of battle is a very atmospheric location, the whole area is well worth a visit,

Visitors arriving by bus to Market Bosworth must realise theres a 1 and a half mile walk to the present battlefield site, paths and signs point the way through fields.

I thoroughly reccomend a visit, especially if the battlefield is in danger of being moved.

By a strange coincidence, Edward's army rested in the village in Normandy where I have a house (Cormolain) on his way to Crécy. I've found a few 1944 souvenirs, but nothing from 1345!
