I came across this name in the book We Will Remember them by Henry Morris, and it says Cpl Reinhold 1ST parachute Battalion 6th Airborne:huh: ??? died May 44, and is buried in Tidworth Military Cemetery. I can find no record in the CWGC register or on Paradata and some other sites, and while normally I would of expected that he died in training prior to Arnhem........ the 6th Airborne part throws a spanner in the works! Also as the book is a record of Jewish service men and Woman who died in in the armed forces of the crown, could there be a name change due to his surname, I know many did change there name in case of capture. Any input would be much appreciated........cheers Jason.

The only Reinhold I could find mate was:

Pte James William Beattie Reinhold, 2758399, 2nd SAS, Died on 23/07/1944 and is buried at Graffigny-Chemin Communal Cemetery, collective grave 12-22.

Interestingly, if you search the CWGC on that service number, you get a surname of Reilly, so it is highly likely that he changed his name for the reasons you mentioned.

    All the best................. :)

Thanks mate, im still inclined to think there is more to this given that he is listed under that name as buried in Tidworth Military Cemetery, that is how you would expect him to be recorded on CWGC and any other records....... according to Geoffs search engine he is not shown as buried in Tidworth by that name, so given that he would be buried under his given name Reinhold why can I find no record. I think I will drop Ron a PM and see if he can shed any light;)

Andy, if you mean that name in Tidworth cemetery then yes, did it via Geoffs SE and drew a blank.

Perhaps I can help with this one.Your man is at Tidworth Military Cemetery Died 09/05/44 22 Section F Row C of E Grave 50 the reason he is not showing on the search engines is he`s Polish his name is Jozef (not Joseph) Reinhold. Sorry I did`nt see this earlier.

Paul - can you tell me where you found that James William Beattie Reilly [2758399] of 2 SAS was in fact called Reinhold? He is one of the men I am researching and I would be very interested.

    Cheers,

Thanks Jim, that clears part of it up do you have a pic of his headstone as in still curious as to a pole serving with 1 Para and would be intrested to see if the Parachute regiment cap badge is on the headstone, I dare say the mention of 6th airborne is a mistake but maybe given the date so close to D-day he was on attachment:unsure: all the best Jason.

    Hi Jason,

Sorry I don`t....but theres a rather poor quality photo at TWGPP site...by the way it looks like a Standard Polish Headstone not a CWGC one.

    Hello Skip,

It seems as if I must apologise to all the posters on this thread! I've just double checked and I've made a mistake with the names. 2758399 only refers to J W B Reilly and NOT to Reinhold.

    Sorry for the confusion..........
