I thought he was Arthur Maurice from his father Thomas' WW1 enlistment and on the 1939 register (wife Irene) .He's Arthur Maurice born 1911,but the family didn't mention a middle name Maurice and nor do the military records so that made me question if the records i found were the soldier Arthur
He married Irene Jackson in 1922
Thought Dodd Street was in Bearpark, which is an ex mining village. Nest street on the register was Dyson Street and the old OS map shows them at Bearpark Colliery.
Born 1921 at Tudhoe Colliery died in 1977 in Durham.
I found that before the bloke provided the incomplete tree from the family.

That's interesting. If I have the right person, he died in 1977. They have an auction house at Hexham and remember a few years ago seeing an article where they were auctioning off some rare and valuable items that had a name associated with them. Maybe someone just threw it in the skip and it had nothing to do with the derelict building?

The close up of the medals on the Daily Mail article (#18) don't appear to be the same as the original photo. The DM article has the Africa star with the 8th Army clasp but surely the one in the original post on here has the North Africa clasp? Not that it makes any difference to tracing the family,

On an Ancestry family tree it says (from the 1939 register) First Aid Post Ex Gunner 4439354 46th Brigade

    Hi

According to his short service record he "proceeded to port of embarked" on 11/08/41 and "embarked" on 01/10/41. He then disembarked on 19/12/41.

The only WS to set off on 01/10/41 was WS-12. The same convoy as my father. The arrival date however doesn't match. But many ships in the convoy stayed at Durban. he arrived about 2 weeks later than my father.

I believe 22nd Arm Bde were brought forward and sailed earlier than the rest of 1st Arm Div and loaned to 7th Arm Bde. They got mauled at El Haseia, losing 19 Cruiser and 11 M3 tanks. It was also believed that a further 24 Cruiser and 11 M3 were left damaged but recoverable on the battlefield. Not sure of the exact dates though. Probably early Jan 42.

According to the internet, 2 KRRC were subordinated to 22 Arm Bde. Part of 1 Arm Div.

Sorry, I am now confused. Perhaps it would be worthwhile making a list of what we know as FACTS as opposed to speculation - are you saying it is not Arthur Maurice?

Hi- it came from the blokes facebook page. After I found some family history for someone I thought might be the soldier, I saved it on my computer and put Maurice in as the middle name.

It's not rocket science! When I saw the facebook post, which has the same name as all the newspaper articles, ie Arthur Glew (no middle name!) I took myself off and did a bit of research. Bearing in mind that the name and the Northeast and military connection was all the info I had at the time, I found an Arthur Maurice Glew born 1911 in county durham. DOB was plausible. At that point I went back to the facebook post, clicked on the photo of the board and saved it onto my computer. I saved it as Arthur Maurice. I have no idea if the soldier is Arthur Maurice, but looking at the family history provided by the family member(s) I think it probably is. Not really many FACTS to go on initially.

Does that refer to ”father’s” WW1 service?

No-whoever's family tree it is has it as Arthur Maurice, but there's no source document. This is his father Thomas' military record

Not rocket science maybe but a crystal ball might help.
As Tony suggests put down the facts to save forum members chasing their tails

If the Coronation Medal was awarded to this chap then it clearly post-dated his military service.

What uniform is he wearing in the second photo ? Corps of Commissionaires ?

What FACTS did you want that I didn't give? I only had 3 and they were all in the title of my thread for heavens sake.

Is there any need to be so obnoxious? In my OP I got the name wrong, but somebody else quite quickly posted the soldiers military record which was found with the board with the name Glew. In my second post at 17.18, after I read Tullybrone's post, I apologised for causing any confusion etc etc and then 2 minutes later I clarified the name was Glew.

Stated in OP- "The only info he has is his name and regiment number-Arthur Grew 6850797"
