    Dear All

A good friend has uncovered the paperwork of her grandfather who was a corporal in the KRRC… I’ll be inspecting the paperwork and letters etc in a few days but of note is that he was demoted from Corporal to Rifleman in March 1945 for negligence whilst handling a Sten. I just wondered if anyone has the War Diaries whether anything is mentioned in there about the incident… I’m presuming he was not up before a court martial but I have no idea…

Any clues as to where to track down additional information would be gratefully received.

    Kind regards

    Pete

Pretty certain that the incident will not be mentioned in the diaries themselves and, in my opinion, also unlikely to be mentioned in any Regimental Orders that may accompany the diaries; brief details of court martials sometimes appear, but I am not sure that this offence would have gone that far.

Almost certainly the incident will be mentioned on his B120 "Regimental Conduct Sheet", but, not sure it would provide any further information than that given in the letter. This form should be part of his official service records available from the MOD, these documents are a 'must' for researching service personnel.

    Hi,

From memory I don’t think a Battalion Commander could award a punishment of reduction in rank so I’d expect a FGCM would’ve been held.

You're likely aware that for the past 20 years MOD have provided copies of original documents - not the whole file - from a man’s service record rather than a typed summary.

As Tony says the “punishment” will be recorded on his B120 Conduct Sheet but in my experience that isn’t usually provided by MOD.

It might be recorded on his B103 form - not always - but even if it is there is a chance the MOD might redact the entry in line with a recently adopted policy. However from records posted on the forum recently the MOD clerks aren’t applying the policy consistently.
