Friends, R.E.M.E's countrymen lend me your ears!
I have a distant relative (see above) who was serving in the R.E.M.E when he died on 10 November 1945 and was buried in the Alexandria (Hadra) memorial cemetery. I believe he was at no.7 base workshop. He was born in Lincoln in 1907. But I don't know anything about him. There are family rumours that he fathered a child in 1929 but never married the mother.
Therefore any details about his service or nature of death (k.i.a. etc) would be gratefully appreciated.
Or pointers to where I look next.
    Many thanks.
    Colin

Thank you for this Tony56. I had his CWGC certificate downloaded onto his ancestry entry already. Interesting to note the he is recorded as having died out there and differentiating that from k.i.a. or died from wounds. Would there be a medical entry as to cause of death or on his death certificate if one gets issued out there?
Do you know of any war diaries for that period that could enlighten me?
I looked at the website to order a copy of his service records but at £30 a pop i cannot warrant it at this stage (he was a second cousin twice removed).
Therefore I am exploring other avenues such as here on this one.
Thanks once again though for your advice.
    Regards.
