Maybe the experts know where it is but I ain't giving away its exact location for several reasons !!! but I was told about it, shown it, took the pictures and left. It was discovered in March when clearing a wood !!!!! I thought when I first saw it that it was an air raid shelter but as you can see it's clearly not. The wood has several other bunker style structures that I saw from a distance and if allowed to revisit I will take at a later date. They appear to be air raid shelters. It kept something off the ground in my opinion.

Hi Savo....would it be by any chance somewhere close to Antim town...posibly in Shane's Castle estate....maybe even on MOD property there? ;)

I'm asking because the barracks itself - where the two soldiers bound for Afghanistan were murdered a couple of years ago - is on the site of a WWII torpedo factory, and the woods there are indeed full of strange installations regarding testing propulsions systems, fuses etc. - including the "concrete island" just off shore.

It looks like the base for a gravity-feed fuel tank - eg a diesel or fuel oil tank.

good day savo.sm.29th june 2014,08:42pm.re:concrete structure-lought neagh, northen ireland-what was it.as a matter of interest i dont think it is an air raid shelter.wy would you have a air raid shelter in the woods, they look more likely to be gun mounts, maybe ack ack, guns ,if not they are for testing something inportant.or they would not hyde away in the woods, just a thought.regards bernard85 :peepwalla:

It's a Petrol Tanker Refuelling Point the same as the one at Ballyhalbert - See the County Down Airfields section on my website for a picture.
