Hi Everyone I was wondering if anyone could give me the locations please of the following Con(centration?) Depots. No. 7 No. 10 No. 11 and No. 48 They are all mentioned on 6 Para Btns weekly Ordinary Rank Field Returns (AF3009) in December 1944 and January 1945. I am pretty certain they are in Italy somewhere, probably around Bari and Taranto, as that's where 6 Para Btn was before they went to Greece. Thanks as ever. Gus
Hello again Much googling later and I have a lead. It is not "Concentration" as I first thought but "Convalescence". Still don't know where they are, but at least I now know what I'm looking for. Gus
Gus try the other side of italy as there was a BIG one at Torre Annuninziatta on the Amalfi coast SOuth of NAPLES Cheers
Thanks Tom I've just found a webpage that suggests 10 (British) Convalescent Depot, was in the Exhibition Buildings, in Rome. http://archives.wellcome.ac.uk/DServe/dserve.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqCmd=show.tcl&dsqSearch=(RefNo==%27RAMC%2F800%27) Will keep digging. Gus
Gus - Try Florence and Bari-usually near a city with Cinemas etc to restore patients morale etc - something to do…. Cheers
No. 11 Convalescent Camp was at Barletta. There is an IWM interview with George Richards of the 2 Bn Royal Fusiliers. http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/80023896 My father was taken here in December ‘43 after hospitalisation following the crossing of the Sango. If you are at the National Archives you may find the answers in WO177. http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/browse/r/h/C2736900 Not digitised but some information on No. 7 Convalescent Camp. http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/publication/120977 http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/1030003626 Again not digitised but the IWM has some papers on 10 Convalescent Depot. http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/publication/400005890 Not a lot but at least No. 11 found.
