I'm having trouble registering with the site but what I found strange was that the search results I got were not alaphabetical.

    Cheers

    Looks good - I still prefer Geoff's though ;)

Should we not be listed in the Partner Sites section?

    Education and Further Information

Who's better placed on the net than us, to help people trace their WW2 relatives?

Good point however I think we supply too many photos free of charge which may be in conflict with other "partners".

    Worth a submission though.

Hmm, at first glance it looks like a very good update, long overdue, but I have fiddled about on it for a few minutes and can't quite get it to work as I would expect. Probably just me, I will give it a try over the next couple of days.
    A definate improvement though.

Di thanks for that info. Re registration this is the reply I got

    Dear Mr Mitchell

    Thank you for your email.

My apologies for the difficulty encountered using the new website. This is due to sheer volume of traffic. We will fix the site as quickly as possible, after which it will be possible to register.

    Yours sincerely

Whoo ho, tried links again ... one happy bunny!

The links now work on my Foreign National / Non World War Dead search engine !

    Not The Search Engine

I wonder if this is intentional or a programming error like last time. I don't think you can do this search on the new website.
All Geoff-links still seem to be working.
This is very good news isn't it, after the last, somewhat controversial, 'update' on CWGC?

More power to 'em, if they've taken on that their presence online has an external 'archival' aspect. (Unless of course it's some sort of expiring redirect - looks like it may be solidly based on casualty number though).

New search tools surely a substantial improvement, and hopefully Geoff's Engine will still work for those who wish to dig deeper at the more 'specialist' end of the target audience.
(I'd love to see the stats on who searches what - surely I'm not alone in instantly selecting 'VC' as a little test.)

All the articles and educational resources seem easier to find as well. Somewhat buried before.

    Citation

The following details regarding the award of the Victoria Cross to Capt. & Bt. Major (A/Lt.-Col.) Viscount Gort, D.S.C., M.V.O., M.C., "for most conspicuous bravery, skilful leading and devotion to duty" are given in the London Gazette of 27th November. 1918:-On 17th September, 1918, this officer was in charge of 1/Bn. Grenadier Guards during the attack across the Canal du Nord, near Flesquieres. Although wounded he went across open ground under terrific fire to obtain the assistance of a tank, which he led and directed to the best possible advantage. He was again wounded very severely, but after a short rest despite considerable loss of blood, he got up and personally directed a further attack. All ranks were so inspired by his magnificent example of devotion to duty and utter disregard of personal safety that the attack was completely successful. Viscount Gort then organised the defence of the captured position until he collapsed.

There was a brief discussion on someone elses Facebook page regarding the inclusion of Batlefield Guide Companies:

    Battlefield Tours and Pilgrimages

Not sure if CWGC should be advertising companies?

    Clive,

It would appear they have put a time limit on viewing external links. After looking at 5 records, you have to wait one minute before you can view another record. This only applies to external links, and not the result links on their record search page.

    cheers,

    geoff
