Seems that old record links posted previously no longer work

    I get the usual 404 message ...
    http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/249275-post8.html

Also results from Geoff's engine get same message

As discussed before on the forum, the search doesn't contain a field for additional info, therefore those researching memorials or the fallen from an area, miss out.

Can't access cemetery plans either, might just be me.

Hope this is all a temporary situation.

I can't either Di but it looks like a temporary fault.

The new site is very pleasing indeed. The advanced search in particular is very good.

    Oh how we hate change.:D
This is quite a decent effort, even though I will now have to spend an hour or two renewing all the individual links on my website.

Still it's freezing outside, so what better time than the present.

After the last aborted change, I gave up. No more relying solely on hyperlinks, full details noted (despite being subject to update!) ... and, forum entries aside, I doubt that I'll bother changing 1000's of old individual record links on spreadsheets and website, likely after waiting to see how it settles, I'll just remove them entirely.

That is why I decided to add the full aircrew death details (if known) to my database. With an average of about four per loss it is only about 45,000:lol:

Whoo ho, tried links again ... one happy bunny!

The links now work on my Foreign National / Non World War Dead search engine !

    Not The Search Engine

I wonder if this is intentional or a programming error like last time. I don't think you can do this search on the new website.

    Woww!!!!!!!! So far so good.

I've spent 6 weeks so far compiling Royal Artillery/Royal Horse Artillery casualty lists for the UK, with no end in sight to get the remaining 250 estimated names I need.

In less than five minutes, I got an exported spreadsheet with all of the UK casualties in a spreadsheet and it's given me an additional 1,700 names.

As the unit information is in one lump, I still need to put in columns for unit type (HAA, LAA, Field, Heavy, Medium, etc), unit and battery numbers. It will shave years off of my project and so far, I am a very happy person.:D

However, without the help of Geoff's Wonderful Search Engine, I would not have got as much information as I have so far.

    Cheers - Rob

PS - I've not been able to get any further results from the CWGC site, as it seems (inevitably) to have been swamped by the anount of interest in their new search engine.

This might sound a bit 'small fry' but using the new CWGC just now, I have picked up 2 new attached officers to Longcloth (judging by their date of death).:D

I really thought that with 5 years of searching, cross referencing and not least GWSE, that there were no more to be stumbled upon!

    Quite pleased really.

Probably this is due to a date correction being made. Thousands of corrections have been made. My most recent index data is from 2009 and will have errors.

(You'll all have to start again!)

Interesting I was only short of about 2200 records, I thought it was 55,600 but the Annual Report totals seem to be incorrect.

I checked first thing this morning & got the same total return for IG so nothing added to that.

I'm still puzzled about the lack of field for additional info. Geoff you will be much needed for a while yet, it seems ;)
