For those interested in the Ardennes Offensive 1944/45 this is one to watch.

Lieutenant Plankers, 99th US Inf Division, organized a last ditch defense of the custom houses settlement at Losheimergraben, thereby denying the armoured battlegroup of the 12th SS access to Rollbahn C. Planker's personal experiences were never recorded. Even William C.C. Cavanagh, author of "The battle east of Elsenborn", to his great regret was unable to trace Plankers after the war.

Edit: I received this book, but found it disappointing. The book not only merely repeats the now well-known story of the battle for the crossroads of Losheimergraben (1st Bn, 394 Inf, 99th US Inf Div), but in places in such way jumbles together events that no coherent story remains. Have returned it. Not recommended.

    MOTOR BATTALION

Some responses a little over a month after publishing MOTOR BATTALION, my new book on the 8th Rifle Brigade (11th Armoured Division) during WW2:
    • Excellent book. Just a shame all regimental battalions don’t have books as good as this for their Second World War exploits.
    • Just to say I think the book is a triumph, very well done with it. I have ordered 5 more … for my brother and sister, and my father’s grandchildren.
    • Just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed reading Motor Battalion. Not only a comprehensive history of the 8th Rifle Brigade but very readable and a fitting tribute to those who fought for our freedom.
    • I am really enjoying your 8th Rifle Brigade book, particularly the comments about 'malnourished Londoners'. I think it's in Richard Holmes' 'Redcoat' where he make the claim that the pre-industrial, late 18thC army, often recruited from the countryside, was on average taller than any British Army up until the 1970's.
    • I received your book which is a fine read and something you should be very proud of.
    • Have now got my copy of "Motor Battalion", a new history of Dad's 8th Rifle Brigade service in WW2... Didn't know until this book how exceptional was [my father's] award of the French Croix de Guerre for an act of heroism.
Attached photos show front and rear cover, table of contents and part of appendix no. 5, showing names, additional details and a photo when available, of all known members of the battalion during WW2.

MOTOR BATTALION is available now through the publisher, at https://shop.bookmundo.com/.../394822/motor-battalion/HB and should become available through bookshops in the UK sometime in March this year.

Out this May - possibly of interest to some here! I follow the author on Bluesky but don't really know him well or anything.
