I'm not the world's greatest computer games fan, but have been impressed by 'Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord' which I bought in my local games shop for the knockdown price of £4-95. There is a new version, covering the Desert and Italy which I may also purchase. This game reproduces some genuine features of World War II combat without being a 'boardgame on the computer' or a 'Sergeant Fury and His Howling Commandos shoot-em-up' like some others I have seen. Has anyone else encountered this series?

Hi Mark - am a bit of a devotee of this game. The version you have is not the better one, but it is good. The new CMAK (Combat Mission Africa Korps) is much, much better. I don't have the time to tabletop wargame these days, and this is the next best thing.

I have added some Combat Mission pages to my WW2 website at:

The CM Eastern Front version is also very good if you are interested in that theatre, and can also be bought for about £5 at the moment in UK stores like GAME.

This is a screenshot from CMAK showing some Shermans in action.

I prefer the look of Desert Rats vs Africa Korps or The Entente: Battlefields of World War 1

I used to play "Panzer Front" on the Playstation one, which was excellent. But currently I'm playing "Call of Duty" on the PC. The graphics are brilliant. If you fancy recreating the assault on Pegasus Bridge, get hold of it.

    Cheers

Yes that is an amazing game. I got shivers when we ran into red square and placed the flag on the roof on the Russian missions :D
