As an example Shaw’s presumption of death was notified in Casualty List no 2028 dated 30th April 1946. The WO 316 Casualty Enquiry files would predate this announcement.

    Hi vitellino,

AJ Olender was A28114 Pte. Anthony Joseph Olender of Kitchener, Ontario who first appears on the Canadian army missing lists on 5 May 1944. He is "previously missing, confirmed prisoner of war" in the 5 January 1945 list. Appears in the liberated lists 12 May 1945. Next of kin was mother, Veronica. Born Kitchener 1919, dec. Pictou, Nova Scotia 1998 so if you wanted to obtain his service file you could. That'll take a couple of years though.

There is also a way to get his POW records which would be separate from his service file. From other examples I have obtained, the detail mentioned would enable you to determine who Lofty was.

    Regards,

    Dave

Hello members. Thanks again for all of your advise. I managed to put in a request today to the ICRC. It opened at 8am this morning, I was away until later on in the day and then I couldn't get onto the request form. I tried later and have now put in a request for information on Shaw.
Not sure how long the wait is, but I'll let everyone know how I get on.

Camp C. C. 53 P. M. 3300 (according to a list dated 15.06.1943). Sources of information  One telegram and one list issued by the Italian authorities Geneva, 12.01.2023

In reference to your information request about your Mr. Richard SHAW, we thank you for your patience and we are pleased to enclose a document which contains the information that is available in the ICRC archives about him:

Moreover, the archives mention that the British Red Cross made an enquiry regarding the fate and whereabouts of Mr. Richard SHAW, once in 1941 and a second time in 1944. The ICRC Central Prisoners of War Agency was able to share with the British Red Cross the information it received from the Italian authorities in 1942 and 1934, as mentionned in the above document.

Kindly note that the ICRC Archives are not exhaustive, as some lists of prisoners of war were not established and others were not sent to the ICRC by the warring parties.

We regret not being able to share more substantial information about Mr. Richard SHAW
