I am trying to pinpoint the approximate area where my uncle was wounded.
He was fighting in Co K 320th Infantry Regiment, 35th Division, and was wounded on 2 Mar 1945 just days before crossing the Rhine.
If anyone has any info on this I would be grateful.
Or, if anyone could give me a link to a good U.S. WW2 Forum, that would be great too!

Here is what was written on his Silver Star Orders:

Also this below tells of my Uncle Val's action and injury in the last quote, found here:

Thanks again for any help, and for reading this post!

35th US Infantry Division at the time took part in Ninth US Army's Operation Grenade, the southern pincer movement of Monty's Rhineland Offensive which started on 8 February 1945. On February 1, after a long trek from Seventh US Army, the 35th Infantry Division began to arrive in the Ninth US Army sector. It was destined to replace British troops near Heinsberg. The division later crossed the Roer (or Rur in German) and fought on Ninth Army's left flank from the Roer to the Rhine under XVI US Corps.

For more details see Charles B. MacDonald's "Last Offensive": HyperWar: The Last Offensive [Chapter 9] and also the previous chapter HyperWar: The Last Offensive [Chapter 8]

MacDonald's book contains this map of the American operations, which also indicates the advance of Task force Byrne. According to the dates given in the map, your uncle was wounded somewhere between the Dutch town of Venlo (on the River Meuse) and the village of Sevelen in Germany:

For a digital copy of the history of XVI Corps see: "History of the XVI Corps from its activation to the end of the war in " by United States Army

I do not know if a seperate history of the 35th Infantry Division exists (would be interested).

If you PM me your email address I can forward you the relevant chapter from the history of the Ninth US Army "Conquer: the story of the Ninth Army".

    Hello Vallie

Just found your message. I hope you are still checking this.

I have been researching my father, John W Ryan's experience in WW2. He was also a rifleman in the 35th Infantry 320th Regiment Company K. I don't know how much farther you may have gotten with your research in this past year, but I have copies of the morning reports which show your uncle being sent to the 110th clearing station on March 2..There is a location on the report, so if you don't already have this, can get you pretty close I would think.

I would be happy to share what I have found, and perhaps you have found information I have not.

    Anxious to hear from you,
    Anne

he shows up on the MR on March 3 and March 4

I'm currently in the process of researching a good friend of mine's Great-Grandfather, Staff Sergeant Nick J. Ross, Company K, 35th ID, ASN 35174087.
He was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received in Holland on 3 Mar 1945 but I can't find him listed on Company K's Unit Journal, Morning or After Action Reports. My buddy also told me that he was informed he received a Silver Star, Bronze Star, and a Distinguished Service Cross as well but I can't find him in any other General Orders because GO 22 awarding him the Purple Heart.

I too am trying to find anything relating to my Grandfather William "Bill" Strebel. According to Morning reports found HERE, he Joined K Company 320th IR on 2 August 1944 and was promoted to PFC then later wounded in November of 1944 near Nancy, France. There are many other documents found Here that may be very helpful.
