    Greetings,

I would like to start a thread about Classical Music and World War 2. I have searched the site already but couldn't locate if a thread had been started.

Also not sure which section of the site such a new thread should go on.

    Regards

    I suggest
    "General
Forum for general World War 2 talk. Anything about WW2 that doesn't fit in any other category"
    General
I can't think where else to put it.

Impromptu discussion on 40's piano music at a recent painting group session, with 3 pieces: first was Warsaw Concerto associated with the film Dangerous Moonlight (1941):

Second was Night on a Bald Mountain, which was composed much earlier, but featured in Fantasia (1940) and third was Dream of Olwen from the film While I live, which actually was released in 1947.

Maybe not Classical, but it is a classic; a great composition, and performance.

And I'm prepared to take the kicking, as in my mind this knocks the "A Bridge Too Far" theme into a cocked hat! (but then I am a chap of a certain age).

    Always remember, never forget,

    Jim.

The Warsaw Concerto was one of the items selected by Guy Gibson (Dambuster) when he was a guest on Desert Island Discs. Sadly the recording of that edition of the programme has been lost (or at least it had been when I asked the BBC many years ago).

I think I might be with Spike on this one :)

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.
