Hello, I'm looking for information on behalf of a friend. We think he may have been at Dunkirk but that might not be true. Any information you could offer about battles he may have witnessed etc would be gratefully received. Thanks for your time.

We think the medal bar with the 8 on might be his but we are not sure. We know the WW1 medals belong to another relative.

    Hi,

From his army service number -
he initially served with the Border Regiment.

From the image you’ve attached - it looks like the General Service Medal and Africa Star medal ribbons. You may find him listed on the pre WW2 GSM medal rolls on Ancestry (or FMP?).

The other medal ribbon is WW1 vintage as is the 1914 Star medal. The badge also looks WW1 vintage - it’s for a Warrant Officer Class II - either CQMS or CSM.

Your only real way to make substantive progress is to apply to UK MOD for his service papers.

Request records of deceased service personnel

    Good Luck

    Steve
