His medals are with his grandson and the information he has in Allan 128378 and 14882. The name changed somewhere along the line or was accidental as Allan.

Ah right, have you seen the medals & does the number around the edge tally with the ones on the medal card ?

If you are trying to find information about this relative then to be honest chasing possible military connections from WW1 is not the best way to go, - checking Ancestry there are 422 people on there database with the name Charles Allen and 45 with the name Charles Allan, so needle and haystack come to mind.
If you wish to go through the WW1 service records looking for him there is a possibility he is there, and address details etc will ensure you have (probably) the right man, but a large percentage of those records were destroyed during bombing raids in WW2, so dont hold your breathe.

Good luck with your ongoing research

The only reliable document that we know relates to him (and which would give us his year of birth) is his death certificate. Anything else would be just guesswork.

On the death cert in Northern Ireland, will only show, his home address, age, if they have it correct, who was present at death and cause of death. I know that in Scotland, it will give both mother and father's name as well as spouse.

I have looked through the census for Thomas Allen as a mechanic, but have not come across that. So frustrating.

That was Charles Allen's only daughter. Their first born, a baby boy, died. They went on to have 4 more sons and just one alive now and he does not know anything more than I do at the moment.

Now that is new to me. I thought that 1939 register only applied to England. I will follow that one up. It is so frustrating that there seems to be nothing for this man. You would think there should be a paper trail as he was in both wars.

Form filled in for Proni. Let's hope he was at home when they filled in the 1939 register. We have everything we need for his wife's side of the family.
