Over on another forum I visit, Historic-Battles ( http://www.historic-battles.com/forum/index.php ), there is a suggestion that we might have a reading group on the occupation of the Channel Islands. If you have not taken part in a reading group, it involves a group of you reading the same book at the same time and discussing it online, probably broken up into two or three parts. First, is anyone interested in taking part and, second, can anyone recomment a good, reasonably cheap general history of the subject which is currently in print?
Excellent idea Angie. For starters I would suggest: War Without Hate Authors: John Bierman & Colin Smith Publisher: Penguin Books Ltd., London Copyright: 2004, 478 pp. Reprint of 2002 edition entitled The Battle of Alamein Of the many books on the battle for North Africa, in my opinion, undoubtedly the best. Copies are readily available at http://www.abebooks.com/ for as little as $1.75. Whatever book is chosen, the ground rules should be clearly spelled out and, depending on the book's structure, comments be called for per a specific number of chapters. Hopefully Lee will go along with the idea - it should prove to be a great enhancement to what the Forum has to offer. Thank you for the suggestion, Gerry
Hello again Angie, Please direct my steps to where the suggestion you mentioned, about the Channel Islands, is located in Historic Battles. Thank you, Gerry

Originally posted by Gwyn@Feb 1 2005, 03:30 PM Angie, do you mean specifically to read about the Channel Islands at war? If so, I'm interested. Particularly Sark and Guernsey. Gwyn [post=31118]Quoted post[/post] The reading grouip, if it gets going, will be around a specific book yet to be agreed. If you want to start a general discussion about any aspect of the Channel Islands in WWII, then I think you could post it on UK Home Front.
