    Just watched this.
Reconstructive archeology I think it's called.
Seemed a bit pointless to me as it already been done for real.
They didn't use the same techniques or equipment anyway.
More of a let's mess about with toys on a big scale.
Still if it gets another generation to learn about it then fair enough.
Still nice to hear Canadians do in fact say 'Eh?' at the end of a sentence.
Best bit for me was the quote, " You can't make honey out of dog shit." by one of the bemused Canadian ground crew.
Oh, the other quote I liked was from a Veteran of the raid who said when they were practicing flying at 60 feet some clown flew underneath them.

Cambridge engineer Dr Hugh Hunt tries to recreate Barnes Wallis's famous Second World War bouncing bomb, and blow up a specially constructed dam in Canada

And excellent it was too in my opinion...I wonder who the crew were that were killed in that B&W footage of them testing when the bomb bounced up through the undercarriage.

It was OK, the best parts were the interviews with Barnes Wallis' daughter and with the Dambuster veteran Jimmy Jones. Although from what I understand few of the crews actually bothered with the woodern aiming device as it was too hard to keep it steady. In stead they just stuck gaffa tape onto the plexi bomb aimer's dome in the correct positions.

Also in a two hour programme you'd have thought they would have mentioned the lamps used to detect the aircraft's height. Could even had knocked up a 21st century version using lasers or something.

Great shot by the pilot though!

In the CGI recreation of the bomb run I did mention that to my Mrs.
She's used to me saying 'That got that wrong..' on TV programs.

Haven't watched it yet, but for me, the timing is excellent - spent Saturday at Hendon with a Plane-fixated 9 year old who's suddenly decided he wants to be a military pilot (good luck kid, they may not have pilots when you grow up... didn't actually say that; even though he thinks "tanks are boring".).

The bouncing bomb section at the museum had him buzzing, so will be watching this later to see what the younger demographic thinks.

it was very enjoyable and I was also tickled to hear the "eh", lol

the pilot, despite the gin blossom nose, was pretty awesome for
a first run. The bald chap cranking the bomb with the permament
fag in his mouth was another classic

    marcus69x I love WW2 meah!!!

Caught the back end of the programme. Thought the shot was perfect although it very nearly bounced over the top. Fair play to the pilot.

This was probably the most interesting and insighful part of the program for me

Having said that, I thought it was quite an enjoyable watch (if a little pointless). From 'playing with marbles' to blowing up dams. What could be better?
