Like you are going to blend in with that avatar of yours, Adam.

I was thinking that was what you might have done, but since there were no other untermenschen posting on the page when I looked, I didn't have any visible to compare them with.

    The process has begun.
Chit-chat has been merged into the Barracks and the Modelling section condensed into one area.

The changes will be incremental as I'm on a steep learning curve but I'll try to remember to keep people informed.

Any more suggestions for changes or improvements?

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Some members may have found a blank e-mail sent to their e-mail addresses. Please do not be alarmed. Tis merely a test.

I have condensed the Holocaust forums into one heading.
They were a complete import of another forum and as such c.100 threads were scattered over 20 odd headings, this seemed somehow a trivialisation.

The resultant 'The Holocaust' section has been placed within the more prominent area of the main World War 2 Talk forums.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Have added 'Prewar', 'Postwar' & 'The Women's war' to the main forums.

Can I add to Gotts apologies to anyone who got sent a blank email, the base and irresistible rule of cock-up seems to have applied and hopefully it won't happen again.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

I've moved my Budapest 1956 thread to Postwar section.
Will help get that area going.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, Adam and Gotthard. It is not a problem that an unexpected email was sent by a group that we should have no problem getting mail from.

I was just about to ask abut the emails. Received a flood of messages from members asking why I had sent them three blank emails. I put it down to gremlins, but it seems there was a specific gremlin doing it. o_O :)

    I'm a bit puzzled now.
Does clicking 'new posts' not work for you Marcus? It displays things in exactly the same manner as the portal except that it shows every active thread since your last visit, over many pages if the list is long.

It can be temperamental and sometimes resets once opened so If I've been away for a few days or a week I open it and then click with the centre mouse-wheel on each thread to open them in new tabs, keeping the list intact.

The same thing might be possible by extending the amount of threads shown on the portal, but it could only be a finite number of posts and never as long as the personal list on 'new posts'. Also, the portal is an odd thing, appears to be an addition to Vbulletin rather than a standard feature, it may not be so user friendly to adapt, I'll look into it but can't promise anything I'm afraid.

(There's 'Today's posts' too, which displays the last 24Hrs worth, much more stable than 'New posts' but not so comprehensive.)

Don't know if that helps Marcus?

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Cheers Adam. I never really use the new posts tab, always the portal. I'll try what you say about using the mouse wheel to keep it intact. The main problem is when i haven't been on for a few days. This place is constantly updated with new posts, but sometimes I can only see post which have been added, perhaps the day before, but not before that. (Unless I actually look through the threads). Next time I haven't been on for a few days, I'll let you know if the problem is still there.

    cheers
    marcus

but sometimes I can only see post which have been added, perhaps the day before, but not before that.

If I remember rightly Lee put a 24 hour limit on the new posts feature.
Someone complained about that as they didn't visit the forum very often and wanted to see all threads since their visit.
Lee said that took up too much memory or something like that.
    The member never came back.

I think Simon Bull was the man. ;)

Sounds like he was whinging about the same thing as me. Maybe that's it. Have a look to see if there's still a 24 hr limit on there and if so, take it off.

Marcus, go to Edit Options and try this one.

    Default Thread Age Cut Off<TABLE cellSpacing=2 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD>You may specify a time period from which to display threads. Threads older than the age you specify will not be shown.</TD></TR><TR><TD><SELECT id=sel_prunedays name=prunedays> <OPTION value=0 selected>Use Forum Default</OPTION> <OPTION value=1>Show threads from last day</OPTION> <OPTION value=2>Show threads from last 2 days</OPTION> <OPTION value=7>Show threads from last week</OPTION> <OPTION value=10>Show threads from last 10 days</OPTION> <OPTION value=14>Show threads from last 2 weeks</OPTION> <OPTION value=30>Show threads from last month</OPTION> <OPTION value=45>Show threads from last 45 days</OPTION> <OPTION value=60>Show threads from last 2 months</OPTION> <OPTION value=75>Show threads from last 75 days</OPTION> <OPTION value=100>Show threads from last 100 days</OPTION> <OPTION value=365>Show threads from last year</OPTION> <OPTION value=-1>Show all threads</OPTION></SELECT> <LABEL for=sel_prunedays>Default Thread Age Cut Off:</LABEL> </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

    user cp> edit options.
Nice one Owen, this might help but I'd thought it was to do with all the threads on the forum rather than the specific new posts area, I've always had mine set to 'show all threads'.
Hopefully it'll make a difference, but I'm not sure.

    Cheers,
    Adam.
