    My Tank Commander in WW2 was Sgt.Major "Busty" Thomas MM.

    In the early 1960s I discovered that he had "won" a much coveted position as a Warder at the Tower of London and wrote to him.

    As a result my family, consisting then of myself, my wife and two teen-age daughters, were all invited down to meet him in his quarters.
    We had a fascinating time, were shown all his various uniforms including those worn on State Occasions and were then given a private view of the Tower itself.

    Page 81 of my Army Album has captured the memory for me and he can also be seen (in all his glory) on Page 82.

    Wonder what your mate in the 60's would have made of WO2 Moira Cameron?

    Not a lot, I suspect !

    I remember the very same "Busty" Thomas at the time that a young Muslim joined "A" Sqdrn soon after the war.
    He said "I hope you brought your own Bloody prayer mat !, I had enough bloody problem getting young Goldstein his Bloody Matzos for Passover !
    All in the best possible taste of course !

    Two Beefeaters at the Tower of London have been dismissed for harassing Moira Cameron, the first female Beefeater.

    BBC News - Beefeaters fired in bully probe

    In 2007 she said:

    She said at the time: "I've had some comments. I had one chap at the gate one day who said he was completely and utterly against me doing the job.
    "I said to him: 'I would like to thank you for dismissing my 22 years' service in Her Majesty's Armed Forces'."

    Viz-a-viz Mr.Sanders-Crook getting a £50,000 payout for unfair dismissal demonstrates completely that, contrary to the old adage, it is possible to teach an old dog new tricks :)

    I can see my old tank commander roaring with laughter, wherever he is !!!!!

    Was surprised to read in the press that it may be necessary to make huge changes at the Tower of London which involve dismissing some of the Warders.

    I wonder what my ex-tank commander, "Busty" Thomas, would have thought of that !

    I think this was because of Corvid lockdown closing down the Tower.Less tourists equals less income so ......We might like to think the Tower is one of our institutions and given its role in guarding the Crown Jewels etc would be safe from economic nfluences, but am sure it's not that simple.

    Bring back public beheadings at the Tower and the tourists would flood back and if "some day it may happen that a victim must be found,
    I've got a little list-I've got a little list
    Of society offenders who might well be underground,
    And who never would be missed-
    Then the idiot who praises, with enthusiastic tone,
    All centuries but this, and ev'ry country but his own;
    And apologetic statesmen of the compromising kind,
    Such as What-d'ye-call-him, Thing'embob, also Never-mind,
    And 'St-st-st, and What's-his-name, and also You-know-who-
    The task of filling up the blanks I'd rather leave to you;
    But it really don't matter whom you put upon the list,
    For they'd none of them be missed
    They'd none of them be missed" W S Gilbert
