201496 Captain T C M Taberer http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2817040/TABERER, T C M of 107 South African Reserve Mechanical Transport Company who died of illness while a POW on 7/7/43, also shown his ID card with his photo, the telegram informing his wife of his death, his original grave in Milan and the memorial plaque and brooch given to his next of kin.

Captain Taberer was awarded his DSO in WW1 while serving with the Hampshire's - the citation is as follows - LG 23 April 1918 - "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in command of his company after the company commander had been killed. Seeing, however, that part of the company detailed for the final objective had become disorganized owing to heavy casualties, on his own initiative he led forward his own company and captured and consolidated the final objective."

T/10666517 Driver Dennis BLISSETT, RASC, who died 11/5/43 and was a battle casualty, the casualty return seems to have him as accidentally killed Casualty Details - it would be useful to narrow down what RASC unit he was with - he was previously wounded 27/1/43

That's everything reposted - I need to have a check back and tidy up CWGC links.

If anyone can help with extra info on any of these men it would be most welcome - I'd like to fill in some of the missing graves/memorials - any local newspaper cutting or anything like that would be good.

Good thinking, I guess that's 2 more War Diaries I'll need to look into. A quick google didn't offer anything on the Tipper Platoon, 239 Company on the other hand had a few hits - basically about them being the first in theatre to use DUKWs - I'll look his book out and see if there are any notes in the training that tie in with them. Its given me somewhere to work from.

    Cheers

    HI Frank,
If you could that would be great - I'll be in that neck of the woods in July just passing by, no chance for a look in myself.

    Thanks

Nothing much Alistair, but here is confirmation of Captain Taberer at Campo 47 alongside some of his fellow officers from South African Forces. This is from WO392/21, POWs of the Italians August 1943.
