Come across a Bookstore today, found a big book on WW2 written by Sir Winston Spencer Churcill. read thru' until BoB sections, there is an hilarious nickname given by Churcill on Hitler,."... but the carpet eater seems..." infact this is the only, so far until the desert war section, nickname of Hitler given by him. Perhaps someone can justify on why Churcill refers him as carpet eater, or is it simply burst out of blue as i do not believe that fabrics was part of Fuehrer diet, unless someone can prove me otherwise. Cheers. Gumalangi
It was whispered, by many among in his personal entourage, that Hitler was A "Teppichfresser" - a carpet-eater. Apparently, Hitler was having nervous crises which manifested themselves in a strange way - one being dropping to the floor and chewing the edges of a carpet. How true one can but conjecture, of such, legends are made. Certainly Winston would not miss such an opportunity to embellish his speeches! Gerry

Actually, of all the myths about Hitler, this one is fake. Hitler did not chew carpets when under stress. He did explode and yell in rage. In Germany, people who do that are called "carpet chewers," the way Americans or Britons would call a guy who beats people up a "gorilla." It was a term for his rages, but not his actual behavior.
Originally posted by smc66@Apr 29 2005, 07:41 PM Hitler certainly would fly around in a rage if he knew what carpet eating is a slang for today! [post=33775]Quoted post[/post] That was my first reaction, but I thought I would wait and see if there was a more intelligent response. Just as well I did
