    Hi,

Not sure if anyone can offer any assistance here but it's worth a shot - I'm in the process of researching the men who are remembered on my local war memorial. One of those named is Pte. William Bishop, 5248236, 1st Bn., Worcestershire Regt.
From the scant evidence I have been able to find it would appear that William was captured in 1942 at Tobruk when the city surrendered. I have been able to find his POW number, which is 153855 and I know that he died on the 4th July 1944, but other than that I have drawn a blank.

    Can anyone offer any assistance?

    Regards

    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

He is included in the file WO392/21 POW's of the Italians as of August 1943. This file is a large ledger type book and is held at the National Archives at Kew, London.

This is all I have for you I'm afraid, others may be able to supplement this information. This document has been known to include some inaccuracies, but I thought you would like the information nevertheless.

See attachment for details, Camp 65 was located at Gravina, near Altamura.

    Best wishes.

    Steve

    Hi,

I have tried in another thread but I'm hoping I might also get some further help here:
I'm researching Pte. William Bishop, 5248236, 1st Bn. Worcestershire Regt., he was captured at Tobruk in 1942 and, thanks to 'Bamboo43', I have discovered that he was in PG65, in Itlay, around August 1943. At some point he must have been moved to a camp in Austria where he died on the 4th July 1944. He is buried in the Klagenfurt War Cemetery. Can anyone help to fill in the details or at least point me in the right direction?

    Regards

    Jeff

    Hi Kyle,

I'm actually interested in finding out anything about him.....I have been unable to locate any information to date except that which is on the CWGC website and a brief detail about his POW number. I'm writing a book about the men on my local war memorial and this has involved appeals in the media - radio, newspapers etc. but to date nothing has been turned up regarding this man.

No problem the stuff I posted was more general than personal so rather than cloud things I took it off. Most is covered in the links already posted anyway
