Canada Farm, nr. Elveden in Suffolk is briefly described in "None Had Lances" on p32 as a "tented camp" - "under trees".

NHL has them moving to "Canada Farm camp" in late August 1942 and mentions that after a "month under canvas" they moved "a few miles down the road to a very large wartime Nissen-hutted camp in the grounds of Chippenham Park".

It's actually a little unclear / less clear in the 24th Lancers War Diary with...

Various Canada Farm references... including potentially...
24/10/42 The Commander, 11th Armoured Division, Major-General.B.Burrows., DSO., MC., inspected and spoke to Officers and men of the 29th Armoured Brigade.

26/10/42 The Regiment took part in a skeleton exercise with the Divisional RA. Canada Farm During this period of October, ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ Squadrons each spent one week at Canada Farm Camp doing Squadron training.

    Chippenham
    11/11/42 Regimental training began.

So the exact date of the late 1942 move to Chippenham Park in September/ October - seems a bit "grey" - although a "month under canvas" could cover September and most of October presumably without quite reaching "two months under canvas". However maybe late October 1942 could have been described as Chippenham and Canada Farm.

Due to WW1 associations most references re. Canada Farm don't mention WW2. Plus there are numerous other "Canada Farms" etc. including "Canada Farm cemetery" (Belgium).

Given the amount written about Canada Farm and tank development during WW1 I can well understand it being familiar as a place during WW2, however its use / uses during WW2 seem to be currently less documented and harder to track. Rather than this being due (perhaps) to ww2 tank development secrecy, possibly this though is because it as a place had been / was being superceded by areas nearby that just had different names, Elveden, Thetford, Chippenham Park etc.

Although possibly other regiments have references to "Canada Farm camp" and their being "there" at other dates during WW2?

    All the best,
