    Andy,

Sorry, I would have mentioned that earlier, I thought you already knew that.

I am happy to take Pauls word it is a ww2 photo, which means it is indeed your grandad ! I am 100% confident that the cap badge is the south lancs, I've spent so much time looking at photos of it......

Applying for his service record is going to answer many questions, but getting a copy of his birth certificate would be very handy for confirming his dads details, you know what I think you will find.

What was the other forum - am always on the lookout for anyone else with knowledge of the South Lancs.

    Pete.

Ive got a horrible feelong that the old Peninsula Barracks in warrington is now Flats. If it is the one om thinking off it was on Orford lane and became a Kings regt Barracks.

But it has been 15 years since ive been up that way

    Hi Phil

Good news and bad news. Bad news is that the Barracks are not as big as they were.
As you can see from the map, the original Barracks from what I understand went down to Quebec Road. Now it only goes to Cabul close as you can see on the second map. I used to be in 5/8 Kings so I know its a TA Center. Dishonourable discharged. :D

    Well, where do I start.

The other night, I decided to go onto Genes Reunited and entered my grandads name just out of interest to see what came up. 2 results both Wyndham Morris but two different years, 1942 and 1916. Cut a long story short, the person who was researching these names was my dads daughter, a sister I never knew I had!! (my parents split when I was a baby) She confirmed that my grandad was Wyndham William Evans Morris and his dad was Wyndham Gordon Goodburn Evans Morris, both were in the South Cheshire Regiment based at Warrington. My grandads service number was 3651541.

A big thanks to all who have helped with advice and if it wasnt for the help on how to go about things, I may still not know I had a sister.

    Kind regards

    Bloody hell, mate !!!

And I thought finding your great-grandfather was good.......

Let us know when you get your grandads service history, we can then work out where he was / when etc - dont suppose your sister has already done it?

Bet you didnt expect this as a result.

hi andy, just found this site today, and have a great interest in the south lancs ,and been taking in all this new imfo' so hopefully give a little back now.
Been looking at the battledress and to me it seems what you have is sgts stripes the S.LANCS TRF possibly a srip of red (? of arms, sorry forgot the damn name) and what looks like the red rose of the 55 (west lancs ) Div.
Now in 1939 i believe the 1st / 4th and 2nd / 4th batts were with the 164 inf bgd with HQ at Warrington, under 55 W.Lancs. Although i just read about 2/4 terriers.
    I also found a medal card for a MORRIS . WYNDHAM G.G.E.
    S.LANCASHIRE regt. WO 2.. No 6022
R.LANCASHIRE regt No 38531. entitled to British and Victory medals
Also the 1911 census has a Wyndham morris born 1881 30yrs old military
living in warrington.and finally. You say you was with 5/8 kings can you tell me what badges they wore please TRF, and was it the gothic script fleur de lye ? badge, hope this is of some help Iain
