Addingham (St Michael) parish war memorials, Cumbria

Addingham / Glassonby ecclesiastical parish dedicated to St Michael in Cumbria's Eden valley has war memorials inside the parish church: one for WW1 and one for WW2. In the churchyard is one CWGC headstone (WW1).

There are at least a couple of anomalies with these memorials:

    (1) The WW1 memorial lists three brothers of the Beatham from Glassonby village who lost their lives in the 1914 - 1918 war, one of whom is Robert Matthew Beatham V.C. However, in the churchyard there is a CWGC for a fourth brother not listed on the war memorial - Lance Corporal I.A. Beatham, Coldstream Guards. His headstone is next to a larger Beatham family headstone. Possibly he died after the memorial had been commissioned?

    (2) The WW2 memorial lists Captain Cyril Wardlow Distin, M.C. (Home Guard) who does not seem to be commemorated by the CWGC. The Military Cross seems to be from WW1. He was the father of another of those listed on the war memorial: Lieutenant James Wardlaw Distin, Royal Corps of Signals. Possibly Captain Cyril Distin died while on Home Guard duty (seems to be September 1940 Qtr, aged 50)?

Castle Carrock (St Peter) War Memmorials, Cumbria

St Peter's churchyard, Castle Carrock, Cumbria has war memorials remembering the local war dead of WW1 and WW2, and also 'Rolls of Honour' remembering those who served in the wars. The war memorials are located just outside the front door of the church. Inside the church are two framed 'Rolls of Honour', one which is a handwritten list of the local men serving in the forces in 1914 - 1915 (i.e. just the early years of the war) while the second 'Roll of Honour' covers the whole of the Second World War (1939 - 1945).

While there are only two names on the WW2 memorial, there are possibly two others from Castle Carrock who are missing from the memorial: Ensign Marjorie Stewart Butler (American Ambulance Corps volunteer) and Flying Officer Leonard Maurice Stewart Butler, RAF, who were mother and son. There was a previous thread discussing the commemoration of Mrs Butler on this forum, see this link:

    Marjorie Stewart Butler, FANY

As can be seen from the WW2 'Roll of Honour'. Ensign Marjorie Butler and Flying Officer Leonard Butler are not listed on this either.

There is one WW2 CWGC headstone in the churchyard, remembering Marine Donald Backhouse Armstrong of the Royal Marines who died 26.04.1943 aged 18.

(As there was no-one from the parish at the church during my visit I was unable to make any further enquiries about why Marjorie and Leonard Butler are not listed on either WW2 memorial).
