Keswick & district War Memorials, Cumbria.

The civic war memorial for Keswick, Cumbria is located in a prominent position at the junction of Penrith Road & Station Road. It commemorates the town's war dead from both World Wars as well as the former employees of the Cockermouth, Keswick & Penrith Railway Company who died in WW1.

In June 1927, the the then Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII) visited Keswick and laid a wreath at the War Memorial. A photograph of this occasion is in the Keswick Museum & Art Gallery, Station Road, Keswick.

Nearby, in the Museum & Art Gallery, is the war memorial of Brigham School, Penrith Road, Keswick. The school was closed in 1993 and the memorial relocated to the Museum. This memorial lists only the war dead of WW1.

The war memorials at Crosthwaite (St Kentigern's) parish, Keswick
Located inside Crosthwaite Parish Church, Keswick, Cumbria

There are war memorials inside Crosthwaite Parish Church (dedicated to St Kentigern) for the Boer War, WW1 and WW2 (see attached photographs).

There are also 14 CWGC casulties buried in the churchyard - 9 from WW1 and 5 from WW2. The 1860 standard (Crimean War era) of the local Volunteer Battalion, the "Skiddaw Greys" was also laid up in the church following a restructuring of the Territorial Forces in 1908.

Crosthwaite (St Kentigern's) Parish, Keswick Cumbria

The Churchyard of Crosthwaite Parish Church, Keswick, Cumbria has fourteen official CWGC interments. Nine of these are from the First World War and five are from the Second World War.

There is also a memorial to four members of the Speight family all of whom were in the army during WW1 according to the headstone (see photograph No 8 attached). Unusually, the CWGC does not record their burial in this churchyard, nor are they listed on the Crosthwaite parish memorial.
