Interesting memorial inside St Michael's church, (situated up a tiny side road off the A6187 to Sheffield), it is also flanked by two original grave markers from the first conflict. 2Lt. George Holmes [1st East Lancs, 9/4/17]; Lt G.C. Hodgkinson [8th York and Lancs. d.o.w. 9/4/16]

    Lamplugh (St.Michael) Churchyard Cumbria.

    Deacs:

I have sent a 'PM' with the details of the former German POWs (WW1) who were initially buried in Lamplugh Churchyard.

As you will have seen in the chrchyad there were only two British & Commonwealth war graves at Lamplugh (one from WW1 and one from WW2). There used to be seven German war graves at Lampugh until 1961. For many years there used to be more German war graves than British & Commonwealth war graves.
