Can you photograph your local war memorial? (UK)

He is not trace CWGC and here (by name & number). It appears he was better known as Gerry, rather than William, but does appear in this Chindit nominal roll: Roll Call P-T

It could also commemorate, although there is no mention of him being a Chindit:

I did research what happened to William Roberts post-war and stopped - to cook dinner. PM to Bamboo43 next.

 

Thanks for your input David, much appreciated. It could well be and I will also do some further digging. I did contact the church just before Easter and am awaiting their reply, which they did promise, so fingers crossed.

War memorial, St Gregory's Church, Bedale, North Yorkshire.

 

A family occasion recently took us to the Welsh Marches and the village of Bucknell, Shropshire. Their Memorial is in the very well cared-for Churchyard of St Mary's:


and reflects one WW2 fatality, Driver Richard Howells, evidently serving on Op VALENTINE with 135 Mechanical Equipment Company RE and buried in the Faroe Islands:

Couldn’t swear to it, but presume this is the war memorial at Christ Church Blacklands, Hastings. I can only assume as there are no legible names or words of any kind around the base.

For men from Crathie and Balmoral Estate, unveiled by George V on 3 September 1922. Quite notable for its swastikas, though obviously from long before they had any sinister meaning.

The 1939-45 names were somewhat obscured by wreaths but are
