The officer right is wearing what looks to be a Highland regiment badge!

Monty's Northern Legions by P Delaforce on page 180 has the caption.

Lt-Col BA Pearson , CO 8 Royal Scots (44 Brigade) and Lt-Col de Wilton , 2 Gordons (227 Brigade) consult a map on the way to Cleve, 10 February 1945.

    Hello stolpi,

I have that photograph (P Delaforce) and know that the Royal Scot is Lt-Col B.A. Pearson, CO 8th Bn, Royal Scots (44th Inantry Brigade) and the other CO is Lt-Col. de Wilton, 2nd Bn, Gordons Highlanders (227th Infantry Brigade). Taken near Cleve on 10 February 1945.

I used to work with a de Wilton. Wonder if they were related?!?

    Best,

    Steve.

No information on the third person, but I believe the guy in the middle is Pearson.

The picture in Delaforce is the same, but there is a building on the right of the shot - if this helps.

It looks like a dawn shot. Delaforce has the Gordons under command of the 44th Brigade and moving on the axis Kranenburg - Nuttenden, the latter captured at 10.00 am. The Royal Scots then occupied Hingst-Berg. The Gordons then pushed east through Donsbreuggen, which they cleared and from where they entered Cleve.

    I hope this helps!

    Best,

    Steve.

Another from the family? Sir Edward de Winton Wills - Scots Guards.

Wills - I'm not so sure, he looks more like an infantry officer to me- the way he is dressed. The shoulder patch also looks like the 15th Scottish Division patch.

Blood family - de Wintons? - Yes it is one of those that rankles, tried expanding the photo. using the magnifying glass and saying that's it only to go back later. Looked at HMLI. Winnipeg Rifles - the Canadian Kangaroo! Regt of Canada and others, looked up the names of the COs. I shall not give up - yet! Perhaps I will try walrus moustache.

Not sure what's going on here guys, but we were at first discussing Lt-Col. de Wilton, 2nd Bn, Gordons Highlanders (227th Infantry Brigade) and the other two in the picture, and this has morphed to 'de Witton' and now 'de Winton Wills'. Is there a point to this?

Happy to help with the research if I understand where this is going!

NB. No pictures of Dale Winton please!!

    Best,

    Steve.

Stopli you have misread me, I have not suggested he is the CO Scots Guards I do not know what he is yet.

Through a mag glass the div flash appears to have segmented areas around the lighter outer area - similar to the petals on a rose?

chap on the left has 15th Scottish Division sign on shoulder & underneath that is one arm of service stripe denoting he is from the senior brigade of that division.
    therefore he from 44 Brigade.

Looking again I see the rifle he is carrying is being carried with a round in the breech. Nothing unusual - but a bit iffy in a 'safe area'.
