    Hi all

I am looking for somebody to point me in the right direction.
My Grandfathers photo is attached. By studying the photo, I think he was in the West Riding regiment. He also used to tell me stories of assisting in the capture of Admiral Doentz (Indeed he had his ceremonial dagger) and how upsetting Bergen Belsen was.

How would i go out finding more information? Could somebody please point me in the right direction?

    Thanks in advance

    Jon

    Hi,

    Welcome to the forum.

The standard (and only) advice is to apply to U.K. MOD for his service record via this link -

Get a copy of military service records

Once you have the service record you will be in a position to know his unit and his movements and will be able to follow his journey through the unit War Diaries.

You will likely have to return here for help in making sense of the detail recorded in his service record.

    Good Luck

    Steve
