Hi, My Uncle Nigel Ray Bowerman was a Private in the RAOC in WW2 and was captured and held at Kutching and some other camp - Tan-J- ??? I cant read the end letters from a card. I am asking if anyone can put me on the right track, I would like to find out what his regiment was doing out there and how they got caught. Also, any info on him would be great, what did he do in the RAOC ??? N R Bowerman - Rank - Pte. Service Number 10553218 Many thanks for looking, Chris.
Chris, here is your man. Very limited info Im afraid other than date of capture Record Details Surname: BOWERMAN First Name(s): M R Rank: Pte. Service No: 10553218 Service: A Date of Capture: 09/03/1942 SOURCE: Record Details
Does the excerpt below the details posted by englandphil signify anything? It looks like 1/5 SVF (Singapore Volunteer Force?). If so, then he was captured trying to leave after the surrender of Singapore on 15th Feb.... I presume the MR is simply a transcription error for NR Bowerman... You may be able to obtain his Service Records from MoD - search on the site for how to obtain relatives Service Records. I think the charge is about £30. That should provide all the requested info and a lot more. you can then come back and tell us all about him

Cheers, Chris.
thanks very much for that - they have mixed up the M & N - easy mistake I am sure but it is him. Next step is the MOD - I live in Canada now ( I am a Brit) so hope thay can do it online. His story is trajic and interesting - I have a great picture of him after his release, he was only 22 when caught. Cheers, Chris.
Not much more to add other than my Records show his last camp being in Borneo. It also indicates there was no record available to those who compiled the lists.
