    Hello,

Can one tell an enlistment date from an army officers number?

Officer in question is 115187. James Ronald Fleming.

I am trying to confirm if the above is the James that was commissioned in ww1.

    Cheers

what I am driving at I suppose is can this number block be pinned down to a certain point in time as can be done for OR service numbers

The problem is if you read the other thread there are no service numbers quoted by yourself, it is only quoted in this thread which is divorced from your other thread, so that will lead to confusion to those trying to search for the information you are after.
See I have even confused myself.

Can you in one post on the other thread put all the information together you have on this person please.

    Thanks
    TD

This thread asks a specific question which is why separate. Not everyone will read all the other but may know the answer to this.

The date of this officer's commission is on the medal index card, 2nd October 1915. Generally though, the London Gazette is the best place to look for the dates of an officer's commission and promotion if you do not have access to a complete set of Army Lists.

    Hello cg1914,

Entry half way down RHS of page under ‘General List’:
    https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/35863/supplement/327/data.pdf

Entry half way down RHS of page, promotion to Lieutenant:
    https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/35867/supplement/384/data.pdf

Entry half way down LHS of page under ‘General List’, which cancels the notification of his promotion to Lieutenant: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/35929/supplement/1123/data.pdf

Information if required: The ‘General List’ was used for Commissioned Officers who were not affiliated or allocated to any particular Regiment or Corps.

So he was registered for work but I have no information on whether he got a job...

    Best,

    Steve.
