Great news that the letter has made it home, that's the most important thing. Although case not closed until we know his service details????? ;-)

    Hi Psywar

You are right of course, I was hoping to try and make the information clearer but didn't quite - :ewink: :(

Although that makes an interesting point that there are 2 Rosina G Lills, one born 1883 (d 1957) and another born 1918 - its quite an uncommon name I would think - anyway just thinking out loud.

    Hi Drew

Thinking out loud again, perhaps if our man was in the Navy, and he transferred or enlisted into the Army then presumably some of his skills may have been useful to the BEF, remembering he would have been 28 at the time. Is it not possible that he was still RN when captured in 1940?

    From post 16:
Following other leads from the above there is a William Richard Marshall in the Navy:
UK, Naval Medal and Award Rolls, 1793-1972 about William Richard Marshall
    Name: William Richard Marshall
Medal or Award: RN Long Service and Good conduct Medal
    Service Year: 1935-1940
    Ship Name: Repulse
He is noted as an AB and his number is J 87006

Sorry Drew found the info myself.
chrissie563 So glad it has been returned to the family, Mark contacted me yesterday to say it had been returned, when tracing it helped that the electoral reg had him & wife at no 7, then later at no 14 Algar buildings, so very happy for the family.
