Hi my name is Adrian Lynchy and only today I found out my grandad who I never new was a prisoner of war. I only found this out because one off the guys in work said I had a funny second name and he looked online and found this. Herbert James Lynchy, number 4127029 Cheshires, camps Stalag V111 f(318) and Stalag V111 b/z. I hope someone can point me to the right place to look. Thank you Ady
Ady welcome to the forum apply for his service records link below Ministry of Defence | About Defence | What we do | Personnel | Service Records | Making a Request for Information held on the Personnel Records of Deceased Service Personnel Im sure a POW expert will be along shortly to assist you. regards Clive
HJ Lynchy - Lamsdorf Camp LJ Lynchy Thorn Podgorz Camp RW Lynchy Lamsdorf Camp (now Lambinowice) All listed as Cheshire Regt (!) At Forces Genealogy Lamsdorf Camp - has a Facebook site.
Herbert James Lynchy is my grandad and Robert W Lynchy is his Brother. Is there any way I can find where they where captured please, as you can see I 'am new to this.
Ady, Contact the Cheshire's Museum, thay may be able to help you with some of that information. Give them a bit if time to respond, it may be run by Volunteers.
I have now found my grandads P.O.W number 221723. Also his brothers army numbers and P.O.W numbers, this should help me find out more about my family history.
I have been intouch with T E PICKERING Major (Ret'd) Curator at the Cheshire Military Museum and he said my grandad and his brothers may been taken prisoners at Dunkirk, it is likely that they were members of the 4th Battalion which was the Wirral TA Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment. This should help me find out more info.
Excellent stuff, Ady!! Glad to hear that things are progressing. It is a challenge to find the information one seeks and all the possible places for information. Have you applied for your Grandfather's military records? Mark
Hi Bfbsm I just downloaded the forms, I just hope my aunties and uncles let me apply for the infomation. As my dad was next off kin and he died at chirstmas and thats how I got into looking for my two grandads Army life.
I have a lot of Cheshires war diaries. I'm sure one or both have a nominal role in the France 1940 diaries. I'll have a look tonight hopefully.
Hi Drew this is what I have found out up to now. My grandad Herbert Jamies Lynchy, rank private,Army number 4127029, Pow number 221723, camp Stalag, camp number 344. His brother Leslie Lynchy, rank private, Army number 4125315, Pow number 13280, camp Stalag. camp number XX-A His second brother Robert W Lynchy, Army number 4125702, Pow number 15966, camp Stalag, camp number 344. His it normal to have two brothers in the same camp?
Sorry, I can't help you with the PoW stuff. It's not really my area. I just checked the 2 Cheshires diary quickley and the list I was thinking of was just for D Company personnel who went to the SAAR Front. You really need his service records to ID the battalion(s) to take it further.
