My grandfather was Arthur Beddowes, he was born in 1906 and died in 1972 I believe. He was married to Cissie May. I have this photo of him and it looks like he may have been in the RAF. How can I find out if he was in the RAF or similar please? thanks Bob
Yes , he is wearing RAF uniform. I've edited title & added RAF to it. RAFCommands aka Ross is the best at RAF queries on here.
Short answer has been given by Owen - yes RAF Other Ranks uniform. Longer answer is if you want to find out more on his service apply to MoD using the online application here Select the service - Apply for a deceased person's military record - GOV.UK You need a digital copy of death certificate (obtained from GRO) and you will get the details in about six weeks. Any thing other way is sometimes correct, but more often than not, wrong. There is one serviceman in AIR78 of that name but lately I've become suspicious of missing cards from this index. Once you have the record we can help with your understanding of the abbreviations and sections. Ross
Thank you Ross and Martin. I saw the shoulder patch and thought it must be RAF, I have not seen a cap with buttons on the front like that before. I will have a look at your suggestions thanks again Bob
