Can anyone tell me when the WW2 campaign star medals were issued? Was it gradually throughout the war, when a serviceman served in the relevant area, or was it at the end of the war? Cheers SteveB
Some ribbons were issued during WW2 (eg Africa Star and 39/45 star); but the medals were not issued until after the war - and they had to be claimed by the soldier. No claim, no medals.

Or 1939~1943 Star as it was Known as during that period of issue, you will see photos of servicemen wearing their Ribbon bars for these Medals,Most Medals will have been claimed from around 1947~50s,though 1000s of Claims are still being processed even today,I expect with the Build up to D~Day Anniversary Celebrations the Medal Office is Swamped!
Campaign stars ? I spotted this photo on the front page of today's Sunday Times Culture Magazine. Do I recognise the 1939-1945 Star ? It could very well be that Noel Gallagher's father, grandfather was entitled to wear the medal (and in which case he is correct to wear it on his right breast, if they are no longer around) but I have a sneaking suspicion that this is not the case and that he is wearing the Campaign Star just for fun. Does anybody know ? Ron
The miniatures he is wearing look like the Westair Reproductions I have of the various medals. My 39/45 star has the BofB bar and I suspect that the ACE has the F&G bar to it. cheers, phil
That being the case - then Mr G is wearing them bass akwards as I note yet another medal to the right of the 39/45 unless it's an honour of course......
