This post is to continue honouring those who sailed from the USA to help us in our joint quest with the other allied nations to overcome the Hitler regime and restore some sort of dignity to the world.
It was triggered by seeing the Camp Shanks post a few minutes ago.

This camp also saw over a million troop movements and many of the infantry divisions building up in 1944 came through this camp. There is a memorial on the site which I understand says:

"TO COMMEMORATE THE SITE OF CAMP MYLES STANDISH, THE MAJOR TROOP STAGING AREA OF THE BOSTON PORT OF EMBARKATION THROUGH WHICH 1,531, 711 PERSONNEL WERE PROCESSED FROM OCTOBER 1942 TO JANUARY 1946 AND SENT FORTH TO ENGAGE IN WORLD WAR II."

My dad left and returned through Myles Standish even though he lived less than a mile from Camp Shanks his whole life. He is with my grandmother in my avatar.
