I've noticed over the past few months how badly the BSA forum has been plagued by spam entry posts. It has never been the busiest of forums, but now it has been swamped by these annoying idiots and their nonsense postings. Terrible shame. http://pub16.bravenet.com/forum/static/show.php?usernum=1322220211&frmid=76&msgid=0
Yes, a terrible shame and those offending by posting in this manner should be , at least, ashamed of their actions. What it does do, however, is to point out that by comparison the WW2talk forum is a shining example of a spam free site and this is strictly down to the owner, moderators and all those responsible for keeping this site open despite daily attacks Thank you all ! Ron
Thanks Ron, Yes, you are so right there, it must take constant vigilance by our team to keep this forum clean and protected. This kind of thing is the reason I chose not to have an interactive discussion board on my website. Best wishes. Steve
Looks like a good forum as well, shame its got mountains of jun through it, who does there admin/mod work?
I'm not sure, they have a webmaster as such, I think they leave it to run itself with the odd upgrade from the provider. I had some decent success in my early research days on the site, including finding the family of one of the men who was with my grandfather when they were finally captured by the Japanese.
I think this website is struggling as I understand the organisation only has one full time member of staff and the volunteers struggle to keep up with thing. I offered some information to put on the website a couple of years ago and was told they had a terrible backlog of work so I gave up. It is a great pity as when it started it was lively. This latest problem might be its death knell, I fear.
Sadly, I think you may well end up being correct. Maintaining a fresh and vibrant website is a difficult and time consuming task and needs a good team of administrators.
If I remember correctly, it is because of that site that a certain B43 pushed me over the edge into that deep dark hole called research by means of a "have you tried visiting Kew...? I can recommend looking at these files..."
It sounds so innocuous, doesn't it ? Try saying to yourself..."I've found out what I needed at Kew, I'm not going back..."
Apparently no one with authority is looking at the list. Two or three a day is not a large number of spammers to contend with, although it would get tiresome quickly.
C... C.... C.... Cold Turkey.... ... And B43's like the demon/angel on each shoulder... I've found another one... and another... have you tried this one...?
