I'm confused, if it is going to cost your GBP30 does that not mean you are going to apply under freedom of Information act? why aren't you applying as NOK? I thought next of kin could apply without cost

Not sure if it is under freedom of Information act or just a service provided by the army to be honest.
To acquire the frebie I think it has to be yourself or wife/huband/partner applying.
I don't think NOK extends to kiddy winks as is us:]
If you have any other info. or knowledge please correct me though as any money saving tips would be most welcome:)
    Cheers

Details for getting records can be found here: Ministry of Defence | About Defence | What we do | Personnel | Service Records | Making a Request for Information held on the Personnel Records of Deceased Service Personnel

    And regarding the fee:
The administration fee of £30 will be waived for requests from those who were the spouse or civil partner of the subject at the time of death (or parent if there was no spouse or civil partner).
Where the consent of the immediate next of kin has been given for its release to a third party, the 25 year threshold will not apply allowing the release of all the information available under the publication scheme at any time, subject to the payment of an administration fee of £30 per record and the provision of a death certificate (except where death was in service).

    from the same site.

    Hi Ady,

Just for elimination purposes, here is the Japanese index card for Griffiths Roberts as found at the National Archives.

If you trace your man and he still has POW credentials, then let me know.

    WOW!
    That is truly amazing.
I've just found my wife's Taid's (Grandfather) WWI service history today as well.
Think I'll have a go at the Euro lottery tomorrow:)
Thank you soo much, I really do hope it's the right man.
Bangor is just 20miles down the A55 it's got to be an amazing coincidence if it's not.
    Thanks again
    Best regards

It turns out that this isn't our man I'm afraid:]
But thanks to everyone who's helped us so far.
So....... we're back to basics while we wait (12months?) for the War Records dept. to do their thing.
In the mean time can anyone please tell me what would be going on in 1939 regarding conscription?
i.e. would a 27year old man be called up automaticly or would they join up by choice?
    Many thanks
    Ady B-)
pp Mr Roberts little boy :]

    Hi Ady,

Not to worry mate. You know where to come when you can be sure of the Mr. Roberts in question. There were plenty of other possibilities in the POW boxes.:)

    Cheers
