If I understand correctly you are supplementing your Heng Long Tiger with parts from the magazine, right? Yes but only the barrel and muzzle brake. The Heng Long tiger is well made at a good price but there are a few inaccuracy's to put right as follows 1) the commanders hatch has the hinge pointed towards the turret vent instead of being in line with the loaders hatch,I just ran a knife blade along the seam, turned the cupola about 45 degrees anticlockwise and glued it problem solved. 2) The pistol port on the left side of the turret is not quite right. the depression where the port slides open at the top. Using a sharp thin blade you have to cut the two lugs and then turn the port anti-clockwise 90 degrees so the port is on the left side of the mount is nearest the main armament and put the mount back on the spot it was removed from fileing and filling to fit flush. 3) The 88 is in the recoil position, in reality the only time it would retract to that position was when it was fired. There is an extension piece available that allows the air-soft gun to still fire pellets but no guarantees, so I'm using the gun from the magazine as I'm more interested in accuracy.4) The final modification is a big job the hull has to come apart to allow the turret to be dismantled as the gun mantlet is the wrong way round ie sight in front of the loaders hatch instead of in front of the commanders position.I know it all sounds trivial but it does make a big difference if you want your model to be authentic.
Send a small donation to the tank museum and get the Tiger engine running again... Save yourself £££'s and get the original Maybach roaring again.
Better yet, send a fraction of the fortune that Hachette Tiger would cost to a museum with a proper Tiger, it will be money better spent
I belive the £40,000 for serviceing of 131 has been raised fo this year(2010) but it needs to be continued.
131 at Bovington is the only operational Tiger I, the other five remaining Mk Is are the American one was in the Kevin Wheatcroft collection in England for restoreation but has become embroiled in leagal issues. The other four are at 1) Musee des Blindes,Saumur,FRANCE.(indoor museum in good condition) 2) Vimoutiers,FRANCE(outdoor monument in bad condition) 3)Kublinka tank museum, Moscow,RUSSIA(indoor museum in good condition) 4)Mitlitary-Historical museum Lenino-Snegiri,RUSSIA(outdoor monument in very bad condition)

Unfortunately when I visited the Tiger 1 and Maus were away on tour. http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/weapons-technology-equipment/19979-visit-deutsche-panzermuseum-munster.html Regards Tom I've done some checking and the Mk I in question is the one belonging to the US army at the Aberdeen proving grounds,It was apparently on loan to the panzer museum at Munster for some ten years on the condition it would be restored. This didn't happen for some reason and it was moved to the Kevin Wheatcroft collection for restoration . I haven't been able to ascertain whether its been returned to the US yet, but Von Poop raises the same answer in the thread you refer to.
Tiger buff, Here is the relevent information from the Munster catalogue. The Tiger is pictured fitted with railway transport tracks and the wide battle tracks are tucked under the front. Regards Tom
Tiger buff, Here is the relevent information from the Munster catalogue. The Tiger is pictured fitted with railway transport tracks and the wide battle tracks are tucked under the front. Regards Tom I stand corrected ,now I've seen the one you mean It's not the one owned by the US Army which is 712 of s,Pz.Abt 504. Fahgestell 250031. This was on loan to Sinshelm Auto + Technik museum and then returned to the Panzermuseum, Munster. The one in the pamphlet is 221 of 2nd Company of SS.Pz.Abt 102. Fahgestell 251114 . This Tiger is the one from the Musee des Blindes,Saumur FRANCE . I've found references to it being loaned to the Panzermuseum,Munster but there's some uncertainty as to whether or not it's been returned to Saumur. Sorry about the confusion on my part, it's due to the Panzermuseum being home to two different Tigers in the past ten to fifteen years(I know excuses excuses)I knew the Saumur Tiger had the narrow transport tracks but I've not seen any reference to anyone managing to find a set of the wider battle tracks for it. regards Chris
