I am hoping one of our Burma/India research-obsessed gang (we're all peas in a pod -- alike in so many ways) has a hi-res copy of the wartime Survey of India map 83H. It includes the town of Imphal and the Tiddim Road southward. This 1 degree longitude by 1 degree latitude map contains the full area I am interested in, for a possible magazine article, regarding a subject I'll present here at a later date.

Chris Johnson has a photocopy of 83H but can't send me the entire area I need on one image. The area I need, in one image, falls within the attached -- which comes from a US National Archives map of poor quality. I'm looking for a better-quality image for potential use in a publication.

    Fingers crossed...

    Cheers,

    Matt

Hi Matt I have some jpgs of parts of the map area above but none of them are on such a large scale. I'd be happy to look through them to see if there is one of the area you want and email it to you. Most are 5-6MB in size. Equally I could give you the file I found them in at Kew if you are near enough to visit. Can you send me a PM with the spot you are interested in (in confidence) and an email address if you want to explore this.

I have 83H N/E and 83H S/E at 1:126,720 (Half Inch). The area that you have shown seems to be split over the two maps that I have.

Matt, this is the one we could have done with earlier! Never mind, we still got there. Thanks High Wood.

    LB,

you are welcome. I took very quick scans using a small scanner. If there is a particular square or reference that you want enlarged please ask. If you need a whole map I can get them copied at the local print shop.

Simon, just out of interest, does the southern most map (the last one) go any further south?

I forgot to get back to ww2talk to check for replies until now! Thanks so much, High Wood. These are wonderful and helpful. For submission to a magazine/journal such as After The Battle, I am hoping to get a good copy of just 83H -- all in one -- that can be used, potentially, in the printed piece. When I have more time, I'll look over your posted maps and see if there is anything else I might request.

Skoyen89, thanks also to you. I will get back to you...after I clear some of this mound in front of me, almost blocking the computer screen.

This is all in relation to what has been posted on the web -- a report which corrects and adds to two erroneous photo captions at the Imperial War Museum. Here's a link to this info: The story behind the IWM photos of Hurribombers south of Imphal – CF 175 and CF 176

I'll probably create a separate thread on this..."eventually".

    Cheers,

    Matt
