This is a very similar sort of topic to my previous one on American troops in Britain.

One night back in the very early 1940's, we had retired to the Anderson shelter in the garden. Now I think back, it wasn't really necessary, we were way out in the country.

Next morning we emerged and discovered to our amazement that during the night an anti aircraft battery had appeared, silently as if by magic, on the nearby Golf Course.

We had not heard a sound other than the drone of German planes passing overhead to Birmingham.

There were eleven guns and a number of tents and vehicles, also one barrage balloon.

They remained there for several months as far as I can recall and I remember at eight years of age, being terrified when they guns went off. All the china on the shelves rattled and the curtains blew out even though there were blackout screens outside the windows. All the windows in a closer farm house were shattered with the blast.

One day they vanished as mysteriously as they had appeared.

I wonder who they were and if any of those men are still alive and remember.

The Golf Course still remains at Stourbridge

Get your hands on "The Defense of the United Kingdom," by Basil Collier, the British Official History of WW2 volume on that subject, or a good history of AA Command. That should cover the ground.

Thank you for the suggestion of the book.

I will check it out at the local library.
