    Hi all,

Quick question (??) - were TCVs all based off of the same make and model of truck, or were a variety of makes satisfying requirements used?

I expect I'll be proved wrong, but I believe the only purpose-built TCV was the Bedford QLT.

Before the QLT came along, I don't know whether the Troop Carrying Companies had a preferred make of 3 tonner or used what they were given. I suspect there may have been some preference to ensure some standardisation in seat manufacture.

Any old truck could be used for troop carrying at a push. Even post war TCVs were not always available, though seats were (or could be) fitted to most ordinary 3 tonners by then. Just look at some of the trucks used by the BEF to carry troops!

Well, of course that's true Chris - I was just wondering about the variety of trucks when books refer to TCVs in France and Germany 44-45.

(And I know that the US are said to have landed with an incredibly small variety of types of vehicles for their army, while the British landed with hundreds.)
